Talent Unveils Anti-Meth Plan

By Associated Press

Kansas City, MO – Missouri Senator Jim Talent has introduced legislation he says will help combat what he calls the country's "deadliest drug." It's the latest proposal addressing the growing problem of methamphetamine in Missouri and other states.

Talent's bill would have more meth distributors prosecuted in federal courts to face tougher sentencing. It would help track purchases of legal substances that are used to make meth. And it would pump millions of dollars in funding for training of police who deal with the problem. The Republican senator says the so-called "Combat Meth Act" also will help enhance treatment options for meth addicts, but the details still are being worked out.
