Mid-America to Get New Tenant

Mascoutah, Ill. – Another airline will give Mid-America Airport in Mascoutah Illinois a try.

Trans-Meridian Airlines will offer twice-weekly charter flights to the Orlando area, starting in November.

Mid-America hasn't had a regular carrier since January, when Great Plains airlines went bankrupt.

Trans-Meridian Airlines will fly twice weekly to Sanford, Florida. The town is 18 miles from Orlando.

Airport Operations Director Ron Owens says the charter airline may expand its schedule around the Christmas holidays.

MidAmerica was built in 1997 largely funded by Saint Clair County, but it's had trouble keeping airlines. Pan Am pulled out in December 2001. Great Plains came two years later, but pulled out in January after filing for bankruptcy.
