Chicago, Ill. – Illinois' Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the state has lost track of nearly 400 convicted sex offenders who are supposed to be registered.
Madigan announced Tuesday she's establishing a "fugitive squad" that will track down the missing offenders.
Madigan's office says 280 of the 393 sex offenders whose addresses are unknown were last identified as having lived in Chicago, Cook County or one of the collar counties in the Chicagoland area.
The task force will consist of local and state police. It will find missing offenders and follow up on citizens' complaints about other offenders who are incorrectly registered or violating parole.
