Kansas City – President George Bush kicked off a second day of campaigning in Missouri with a rally Tuesday morning in suburban Kansas City.
Speaking to some 10,000 enthusiastic supporters in Lee's Summit, Mr. Bush celebrated what he says is a movement of conservative Democrats to his cause, following Georgia Senator Zell Miller's fiery Republican national convention speech.
"Remember that example Zell Miller set the other night," Bush said. "There are plenty of Democrats coming our way. Plenty of people understand that if you put me and Dick Cheney back in office this country will be safer, stronger and better for every American."
About 100 protesters were at Bush's speech to counter the impression that Democrats are abandoning their candidate.
Some carried pink slips representing the loss of jobs in Missouri.
