St. Louis – Opening arguments got underway Wednesday in the murder-for-hire case against 19-year-old Katie Wolfmeyer.
She's accused of conspiring with former St. Louis Blues player Mike Danton to kill Danton's agent, David Frost.
The prosecution maintains Wolfmeyer had full knowledge of the plot and cooperated with a would-be hit man who was secretly working with the FBI to foil the plan.
Before dismissing the jurors, U.S. District Judge William Stiehl cautioned Wolfmeyer's family and friends against wearing emblems that may influence the jury.
Wolfmeyer's mother Nancy says that's not the intent.
"People are calling us saying they're making their own purple ribbons for Katie, to show the love and support, Nancy Wolfmeyer said. "Not to sway anyone, but it's the love and support of our girl."
Wolfmeyer's attorney says evidence will show that at no time did she know of the actual murder plot until her arrest.
