Former Nevada Priest Allowed to Get Treatment in Missouri

By AP/KWMU

Las Vegas – A former Nevada priest convicted of abusing teenage boys has been taken off probation and will be allowed to move to a Missouri treatment center.

A Las Vegas judge's action letting Mark Roberts move to the treatment center for priests in Dittmer near St. Louis is drawing anger from some who fought it last year because a former victim now lives in the area.

But Judge Donald Mosley says Nevada parole and probation officials couldn't find any other place to put the 53-year-old priest.

He says the director of Recon, the Missouri center operated by the Roman Catholic church, will keep close watch on Roberts.

Roberts pleaded guilty last year to lewdness and child abuse involving five teens. Authorities say the boys were subjected to sexual rituals during counseling sessions.
