St. Louis – Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill says the her party cannot take the African-American vote for granted.
McCaskill is challenging Governor Bob Holden in Tuesday's Democratic primary.
She says Republicans have a valid criticism of Democrats' reliance on the black vote.
"You can't talk the talk, you have to walk the walk," McCaskill said. "You have to have policies that indicate you understand inclusion, you understand that the tax incentives that have been put out there to help development in the blighted community don't belong out in West County."
McCaskill adds that most African-Americans are uncomfortable with the GOP platform.
Thursday she received the endorsement of the St. Louis American- the area's leading black newspaper.
