Jefferson City, Mo. – Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Blunt says it should be harder to limit hunting and fishing rights.
Blunt backs a proposal requiring a two-thirds vote of Missourians to approve citizen initiatives that would restrict hunting and fishing rights.
That would be higher than the simple majority needed to pass most other ballot proposals.
Republican lawmakers proposed a similar constitutional amendment earlier this year, but it failed in the Senate.
Blunt said he backed the amendment while outlining his environmental proposals Tuesday.
He called for an even-handed approach between environmental regulation and economic development.
Blunt is expected to win next week's Republican primary and face either Democratic Governor Holden or Claire McCaskill.
