St. Louis, MO – A parents group that wants a state audit of the Maplewood-Richmond Heights school district says it now has enough signatures to get one.
The organization Real Improvements for School Excellence is also known as RISE.
They say the district wasted money on things like furniture and expensive artwork.
Two weeks ago Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill told members they needed an extra 56 signatures in order to get an audit.
RISE's Tabby Barry says they now have more than enough names, and will send them in Monday.
"About five of us spent two or three days, and within two or three days we had our signatures, and actually quite a few more," Barry said. "So they will be submitted and the audit will be a go."
While District officials have said annual audits by a local firm have found no problems, RISE's Tabby Barry says the state could turn up things the district's own audits didn't.
"It will go a little more in depth with the spending, the looking into travel, catering-things that we're going to bring to the auditor that we want to look into," Barry said.
School district officials say their records are already public, and a state audit would be a needless expense.
