St. Louis – There was good news today for Scott Air Force Base in the Metro East.

Congress has set aside more than $265 million for the 932nd Airlift Wing.

The money will be used to buy three new C-40 aircraft and maintain three C-9s already at the airbase.

Illinois Democratic Congressman Jerry Costello says Scott's future is much brighter than it was just a year ago.

"The 932nd not only will not retire, and leave the area and go out of existence, but it means that the 932nd has a new mission and we believe that they will receive additional missions in the future," Costllo said.

He also says there are still no guarantees that Scott will not be on the next base closure list.

But he added today's news is a step in the right direction.
