St. Louis – The new head of the St. Louis School District outlined his goals for the upcoming school year Monday.
Floyd Crues took over as interim superintendent last week.
Crues says he wants to keep improving academic achievement, including moving the district towards state accreditation.
He also called on people to get involved in the school district through tutoring, volunteering or offering ideas.
"We must get on board as a community," Crues said. "This is not just a school board function, it's a community function. So, my focus is on ahead. Where do we go from here? I think we've turned a corner and I intend to lead us to where we want to be."
Crues noted that the community was divided over a number of decisions made last school year. That's when a private company was running the district.
He says he is starting the healing process.
Crues will stay superintendent until the school board hires a permanent replacement.
Crues wouldn't say whether he wants the permanent job.
