East St. Louis, Ill. – An attorney for a woman accused of scheming with St. Louis Blues player Mike Danton in a murder-for-hire plot says his client is the innocent victim.

Art Margulis says 19-year-old Katie Wolfmeyer was naive and smitten with Danton when she was manipulated into allegedly helping him hire a hitman.

Margulis made the comments Monday after Wolfmeyer's federal pretrial hearing in East St. Louis. A similar hearing for Danton is scheduled for Tuesday.

Wolfmeyer's trial is set for September.

Authorities say Danton wanted to kill his agent and had Wolfmeyer help set up the plot.

Prosecutors say the would-be hit man was an informant who alerted police.
