St. Louis –

Missouri Governor Bob Holden signed the so-called Jobs Now plan into law Thursday.

It gets rid of some state tax credits. That will free up money to be spent on local road projects.

The idea is to create construction jobs. But the law also allows ways for big businesses to re-train their workers.

Ann Brand, with St. Louis Community Colleges, helped write the measure.

She says companies already in Missouri might not move a factory or office if they knows they can re-train workers.

"We've taken, like, some of the automobile industry when they retrofit their facilities, train their people on their new systems so they all learn at the same time how to use the computers, with the fail safe and what the quality control kind of issues are. And it's helpful," Brand said.

Officials at Thursday's bill-signing ceremony also announced that 26,000 new jobs were created in Missouri in June.
