Springfield, Ill – Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed into law a temporary budget Friday to keep state government operating for the next month.
He then sent legislators home for the holiday weekend to spend time with their families.
With the governor and legislative leaders still fighting over a state budget at the start of the new budget year, the Legislature approved an interim 30-day, core services budget Thursday.
That version provides a full-year spending plan but ends that proposal as of August 1.
The governor says legislators should be prepared to stay in session every day once they return Tuesday for the rest of the month or however long it takes to get a final budget approved.
