Washington – The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to compensate thousands of Cold War-era workers stricken with cancer and other illnesses.
They suffer from radiation exposure from nuclear plants in Missouri and Iowa.
The financial help is in a national defense spending bill that is moving toward passage.
In Missouri, the plan would help former workers at Mallinckrodt in St. Louis, and plants in Weldon Spring and Hematite.
