St. Louis, MO – 125 people will carry the Olympic torch for 34 miles through St. Louis today (Thursday).
The torch will arrive by plane from Los Angeles this morning; that's where the torch started its run through the U.S. with the help of torchbearers that included actors Slyvster Stallone and Tom Cruise.
The relay in St. Louis will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Gateway Arch.
Olympic gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee will finish the celebration by lighting the Olympic cauldron at Art Hill in Forest Park tonight at about 8:45 p.m. That ceremony will include fireworks, and a symphony performance.
St. Louis gets to have the Olympic torch because it held the 1904 Games, which were the first Olympics in the U.S. The torch will then head to Atlanta.
