Heavy Rains Drench St. Louis Area; More Expected

St. Louis, MO – The weather pattern that has buffeted the St. Louis area with high winds, heavy rains, hail and lightning in recent days is expected to stick around for awhile.
The system was draped over the upper Midwest last week, prompting devastating storms in Nebraska, Iowa and northern Illinois.
National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Truett says the system has dropped to the south and is hanging over Missouri.
"We have all the ingredients necessary for strong storms," Truett said. "We have favorable winds in the upper atmosphere, we have a frontal boundary and the air mass over our area is quite humid. That's all you need and you get a lot of rain and hail out of storms when they occur in that environment. "
Truett says a daily chance of rain and thunderstorms will remain in place through the weekend.
