Jefferson City, Mo. – The battle over same-sex marriage is in Missouri's courts, after Attorney General Jay Nixon filed suit Thursday against Republican Secretary of State Matt Blunt.
Governor Holden, a Democrat, and Blunt are at-odds over when to hold an election on a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriages.
Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan says he expects to have a decision Friday on whether Blunt must obey Holden's roclamation setting the election for the August third primary.
The alternative is the November second general election.
Holden is seeking re-election on the Democratic ticket. Blunt is the governor's main Republican challenger.
And, whatever Callahan decides, the case is expected to be appealed to the state Supreme Court.
