St. Louis – The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry released a report Tuesday that says current levels of lead, cadmium and arsenic in the town of Herculaneum, Mo. are not high enough to cause health problems.
But the agency also says it's hard to tell if past exposure could cause health problems.
Herculaneum is home to the nation's largest lead smelter.
St. Louis-based Doe Run, pressed by environmental agencies, has been working to reduce lead emissions blamed for illness in many of the town's children.
