Miami – Rudy Crew is heading to Miami.
Miami-Dade County's school board Monday hired the former chief of New York City's public school system.
Crew was also being courted by school districts in St. Louis and Washington, D.C.
Crew was the St. Louis School Board's only pick for superintendent, even though the other districts were courting him.
Crew will earn $295,000 annually in Miami.
Miami-Dade's school board voted late last month to offer the position to Crew, who ran New York City's schools in the late 1990s. Crew now works at the Stupski Foundation, a California education-reform think tank.
Miami-Dade's school system is the fourth largest in the country.
In Miami, Crew will inherit a system plagued by budget deficiencies and inadequate school construction, among other problems.
