St. Louis – The St. Louis Public Schools' only candidate for superintendent has taken himself out of the running.
Rudy Crew notified School Board President Darnetta Clinkscale of his decision Monday afternoon.
Crew was the only candidate under serious consideration for the top job. But St. Louis Public Schools Spokesman Glynn Young says finding a candidate with a commitment to improving student performance remains the top priority.
"That may include a new search, it may include looking at the other applicants that applied for the position and revisiting that," Young said. "It could mean an interim superintendent of some kind."
Crew is still under consideration for superintendent positions in several other cities.
