East St. Louis, Ill. – Federal prosecutors say St. Louis Blues player Mike Danton plotted to kill his agent for at least six months and tried on at least three occasions to hire a hit man.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Massey outlined details of the government's complicated case against Danton during a detention hearing Friday.
Prosecutors also confirmed for the first time their belief that agent David Frost was Danton's intended victim.
Frost had repeatedly denied reports he was the target.
Danton was ordered to remain jailed. His trial is scheduled to begin July 20th.
Danton and 19-year-old Katie Wolfmeyer of suburban St. Louis are accused of conspiring to kill an acquaintance of Danton's.
The player was arrested in San Jose, California, on April 16th, a day after the Blues' were eliminated from the NHL playoffs by the San Jose Sharks.
