Crew Mum on Career Plans

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Dr. Rudy Crew, St. Louis' leading choice to head its beleaguered city school district, told reporters in Miami today he's still not decided where to accept a job offer.

St. Louis and Miami are among several urban school districts reportedly negotiating with Crew for the job of superintendent.

Crew spent much of the last two days meeting with Miami district parents and labor leaders.

Education reporter Matthew Pinzur is with the Miami Herald.

"What he ended up saying was that he's very excited by the opportunities that present themselves in south Florida, but that he also has had conversations with people in St. Louis and Washington and is honor bound to deal with them and have face to face conversations with everybody before he makes any kind of announcement about where he's going," Pinzur said.

Pinzur says Miami school officials would like to ratify a contract with Crew by May 19.

St. Louis officials say their talks with Crew are continuing.
