Jefferson City, Mo. – The state of Missouri has become the 11th state to return more than $100 million in unclaimed property to its rightful owners.
And there's still another $300 million in unclaimed property the State Treasurer's office is trying to return.
The property could be, for example, from an old safety deposit box someone has long forgotten about.
The Division of Unclaimed Property takes control of cash, stocks, bonds and the contents of safe-deposit boxes where the owners have not made contact for at least three years. It then tries to find the owner of the property.
