Missouri Gaming Commission to Hear Casino Proposals

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – The Missouri Gaming Commission meets Wednesday to consider bids from four gaming companies hoping to build casinos in downtown St. Louis, St. Louis County and Jefferson County.

Pinnacle Entertainment, wants to build a casino in Lemay, just south of St. Louis.

A local citizens group there opposes the project. They say problem gambling would cost taxpayers more money than they would receive in school district revenues.

But Pinnacle Chief Operating Officer Wade Hundley disagrees.

"These types of groups tend to spread a lot of misinformation and propaganda that haven't borne out to be correct," Hundley said. "Our experience has been that communities where gaming has come to areas which need economic development have received that type of development and are much better off for it."

The Missouri Gaming Commission meets Wednesday at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
