Bond Files for Re-election, Wants Rice to Testify

(UPI file)

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Republican Senator Kit Bond made his candidacy for re-election official Monday.

Bond appeared this morning with agricultural leaders who'd endorsed him, while filing his candidacy papers at the Missouri secretary of state's office.

The senator is expected to face Democratic State Treasurer Nancy Farmer in his bid for a fourth, six-year term in the Senate.

Bond said his campaign would emphasize his experience, leadership and ability to get things done. He expressed hope for a compromise on a highway funding bill.

Bond also said he would like President Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, to publicly testify before a special commission about the government's role in preventing terrorist attacks.

But he said he also understands there are policy concerns in doing so.
