Springfield, Ill – 
Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich Tuesday proposed spending an additional $3.2 billion on construction and repairs over the next fiscal year.
That's slightly below the new spending being spent during this current fiscal year and about $800 millionless than last fiscal year.
Budget Director John Filan says more than a third of the money would go to local governments, largely to help build new schools and repair roads. Much of the rest would go into building and fixing state roads and bridges.
"The focus is trying to accelerate projects within the bounds of affordability to create jobs now, with a particular emphasis on transportation infrastructure and education infrastructure," Filan said. "That's largely what you'll see in the vast majority of the budget."
The Governor's capital budget includes money for the rehabilitation of the McKinley Bridge, land acquisition for the new Mississippi River bridge, and a new forensics lab in Belleville.
