SNAP Wants Area Instructor Fired

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – The Survivors' Network of Those Abused by Priests wants Washington University and Webster University to fire a Jewish rabbi.

Mordecai Magencey is a part-time religion instructor at the schools.

In a 1987 plea agreement, he gave up license to practice psychology in Missouri. That was after several female patients alleged sexual abuse.

SNAP's David Clohessy says Magencey could still pose a threat to students.

"If he exploited people in counseling sessions as a psychologist, and was now pumping gas or working at the Seven Eleven, that would be a different situation," Clohessy said. "But he's around people who are arguably more vulnerable than the women he abused years ago."

A statement from Webster University says officials plan to ask the state Attorney General if Magencey is violating his plea agreement.

Washington University officials also said in a statement that the Attorney General's should handle the matter. The statement added that Magencey teaches an evening class, which primarily enrolls adult students.
