Holden Criticizes GOP Budget on State Tour

(UPI file)

By AP/KWMU

Sikeston, Mo. – While Missouri lawmakers are on spring break, Governor Bob Holden is traveling the state for a series of health care forums.

The Democrat is trying to highlight the potential problems he says could arise from Medicaid cuts House Republicans are proposing.

The GOP budget would make it more difficult for low-income parents to qualify for Medicaid.

Republicans say the move is necessary to save the state millions of dollars.

Holden says the move would have devastating effects for the tens of thousands of people who would be denied health care.

The series started Monday in Sikeston. Holden has scheduled similar public meetings for later this week in Kansas City and St. Louis.
