St. Louis – Officials at Scott Air Force Base near Belleville, Ill. are reviewing their methods of responding to sexual assault.
The assessment is Air Force-wide. It comes in the wake of a major scandal at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where more than 100 allegations of sexual abuse were made in the 1990s.
Brig. Gen. Mark Zamzow is with Scott's Air Mobility Command.
"Unfortunately we've had a number of situations come up recently: Colorado, the Pacific, and we are very anxious to make sure that we can handle and support the victims with anything that comes up," Zamzow said.
Zamzow says his review team is talking with officers and with volunteer focus groups that are separated by gender.
They are not interviewing individual assault victims.
