St. Louis – A U.S. Senate candidate visited the Metro East Thursday and donated some of his campaign money to a veterans' organization.
Democrat Gery Chico stopped at the Veterans' Advocates headquarters in East St. Louis and gave the job training group a check for $500.
Chico says it's something candidates don't usually do especially within a few days of an election.
"Right now most of them are grabbing every bit of airtime that they can to talk about themselves, to rustle up their last votes, and make sure they have the polish on all TV and radio commercials that they will put on," Chico said.
The Illinois Senate primary is Tuesday.
The former Chicago School Board president is one of seven Democrats on the ballot. There are also eight Republicans.
