Amtrak's Uncertain Future in Missouri

Kansas City, MO –

Lawmakers in a state committee yesterday passed a budget that has no money for Amtrak in it.

But the committee's chairman said he'll probably put some money into the budget later.

Amtrak has said it will run out of money by July to run two trains each day between St. Louis and Kansas City.

That's because lawmakers last year didn't give Amtrak enough money to operate the trains for a whole year.

Matt Hackworth reports on a train service that has problems both on the rails, and in Jefferson City.
