Anti-Abortion Advocates Call for More Reporting

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Anti-abortion advocates told Missouri senators Wednesday that legislation requiring more information from abortion providers will help lawmakers make better decisions.

But abortion rights supporters say the bill is just another attempt to chip away at women's rights.

Abortion providers already report some information to the state, including any complications arising from an abortion.

A bill by Senator Chuck Gross would add to the report the reason the woman decided to have an abortion, and the specific type of procedure performed.

The measure by the St. Charles Republican also bumps up the charge for those who release any information that could identify patients, doctors or hospitals performing abortions.
