St. Louis, MO – Henry Hungerbeeler is leaving as the director of the Missouri Department of Transportation today (Monday).
That's three months sooner than first planned.
Hungerbeeler said the agency could benefit from new leadership when he announced his resignation in December.
That came after a citizens' advisory group had recommended changes in top management.
The group said changes might help restore confidence in the MO-DOT.
Hungerbeeler will still lobby for Missouri roads in Washington.
Congress is debating a six-year federal highway budget.
Former MO-DOT administrator Dave Snider will come out of retirement to be interim director, while the agency looks for a new boss.
