St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Public Schools is negotiating with a Philadelphia-based company to handle its food service operations. It's one of many ways the district is trying to stem a multi-million dollar deficit.
The district has chosen to negotiate a contract with the Aramark Corporation. District spokesman Glynn Young says food service operations have been running at an annual deficit of between $1-4 million.
Young says if the contract is approved, about 270 unionized food handlers would be considered for work with Aramark.
"They'll probably be making some different configurations or putting people in different kinds of locations," Young said. "I think it's our expectation that most employees will continue to have positions with Aramark."
The district interim management team will submit a recommended contract to the school board on February 26.
