St. Louis – Democrats have been in the media spotlight in advance of Tuesday's primary, but Missouri Republicans rallied Monday in Clayton for their favorite presidential candidate.

Missouri legislative GOP leaders Catherine Hanaway and Peter Kinder joined forces with U.S. Senators Kit Bond and Jim Talent at the rally, and praised President Bush.

Bush campaign advisor Mary Matalin lauded another member of the administration she says Democrats are unfairly attacking.

"John Ashcroft is a hero!" Matalin said. "John Ashcroft is an amazing man. He is another great example of how a party and candidacies with no ideas think they can win, by demonizing the other side.

The group kept their message mostly positive, and focused on the economy and the war on terrorism, but avoided social issues.
