Jefferson City, MO – Missouri voters could decide whether to ban same-sex marriages.

Pending legislation in the Missouri House would amend the state Constitution. That question would be put to voters on the November ballot.

The constitutional amendment has more than 40 sponsors in the House, including the top-ranking members.

Missouri already has a law against gay marriages, but supporters worry about courts declaring it unconstitutional. An amendment to the constitution would prevent that.

Opponents call the issue a question of civil rights.
