Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Bob Holden is announcing new initiatives targeting methamphetamine.

Holden is creating two task forces. One is focused on educating the public about meth and preventing people from using it. The other will concentrate on treatment.

The governor will also reconve a methamphetamine summit in April, with representatives of the task forces, police, prosecutors, and others.

The state's first meth summit was held in 1997.

Last year, Missouri lead the nation by seizing nearly 2,800 meth labs.

Holden says the state is doing an excellent job shutting down the labs, but needs to better prevent children from taking the drug.
