Jefferson City, MO – A day after Missouri Governor Bob Holden chastised Republicans in his State of the State speech, House Speaker Catherine Hanaway on Thursday said she can no longer work with the governor.
She says Holden told untruths during his speech, and that he's burned his bridges with the GOP majority in the House and Senate.
Hanaway says Holden, not lawmakers, is to blame for cutting spending on education. The comments are in stark contrast to two weeks ago, when Hanaway pledged bi-partisanship and said she would work with the governor.
The bickering comes in the wake of last year's session, when Holden vetoed 26 bills, only to have the Legislature over-ride his veto three times.
