St. Louis, MO – Roberti is suing Haas for defamation of character.
Roberti's attorney, Chet Pleban, says Haas is suggesting that prosecutors begin a criminal investigation into the role Roberti and others played in the sale of the school:
"This crosses the line," Pleban said. "What we're talking about here is an accusation, a suggestion by Bill Haas that there was some sort of collusion between St. Louis University and Bill Roberti and Vince Schoemehl and the school board. And in my opinion, there has to be some consequence."
Haas says the suit does not deter him from seeking an investigation.
"Mr. Roberti does have a good name," Haas said. "And it would seem to me that if he is concerned that people might think that he has done wrong, the best way to exonerate himself from any of those beliefs is for an investigation to take place not for me to be sued."
The suit is expected to be filed in St. Louis Circuit Court Friday.
