St. Louis, MO – The Army Corps of Engineers says there's no evidence that radioactive waste washed into a creek near Lambert Airport this weekend.
Sunday's two-inch downpour flooded Coldwater Creek, swamping a corner of the 21-acre site near the airport where contaminated soil is being excavated.
The area was a dump for decades for uranium, radium, thorium and other residue from processing nuclear fuel.
Anti-nuclear activists say the case shows how dangerous it is to have radioactive waste stored in a flood plain.
