Missouri Legislative Session Begins
Jefferson City, MO – The 2004 Missouri legislative session is under way, and Republican House and Senate leaders are extending the hand of co-operation toward Democratic Governor Bob Holden.
But the GOP stopped short of agreeing to any proposed new taxes. Republican leaders laid out an agenda that looks much like last year's.
It includes a budget balanced without new taxes and seeks business-friendly policies, such as changes to the state's legal system.
Among the new items by majority Republicans is a bonding proposal intended to create jobs and economic development. The plan would be designed to boost the economy with construction of engineering and health sciences buildings at the University of Missouri.
