Kansas City, MO – Western Missouri Congresswoman Karen McCarthy told the Kansas City Star Sunday that she will not seek re-election next year.

She's been under fire because of allegations that she misused government workers and campaign dollars for her own benefit.

She also made public her battle with alcoholism this year, and told the paper she wants more tranquility.

The 56-year-old McCarthy represents most of Jackson County and part of Cass County in western Missouri.

Two Democrats, Jamie Metlz and Damian Thorman, have already entered the race for her seat.

Republicans Steve Dennis and Jeff Brauner are also running.

She faced questions this year about the use of her campaign account to finance a four-day February trip to the Grammy Awards in New York.
