Chicago, IL – The governor said Monday that he is asking for a waiver in the laws against importing drugs. That would let the state buy drugs for its 230,000 state employees and retirees.
He says Canadian drugs can be 40% cheaper than those bought in the U.S.
"All we're asking for is an opportunity to try something new," Blagojevich said. "An opportunity to work with the federal government. And, most importantly, an opportunity to help senior citizens and consumers save money on the high cost of prescription drugs."
Blagojevich says he would like an answer within 30 days. He also says that if the answer is no, then the next step might be an lawsuit.
