Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Bob Holden's administration is refusing to provide information about some salaries to the state's Auditor Claire McCaskill.
McCaskill is running for Holden's job in next year's election. She wants to perform an audit of the salary levels of upper-level managers in state agencies, but some have refused to provide such information. She says there's a coordinated effort by Holden supporters to stymie the audit.
But Holden denies any knowledge of the audit. Letters sent by the legal counsels of at least four departments use nearly identical wording in denying the records request. The letters all question McCaskill's authority to perform the audit and to see confidential information.
McCaskill says state agencies routinely share personnel records.
