St. Louis, MO – The eight-mile project has been sought by transportation planners for close to 35 years, saying that it will relieve stifling traffic congestion on bridges between St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. Missouri Department of Transportation spokeswoman Linda Wilson says the new roadway will have an immediate impact:
"We expect when it opens that it's going to carry 60,000 cars, which is what Highway 370 carries on an average day...so I mean, we expect that when it opens it's going to have a lot of traffic on it," Wilson said.
Formal ceremonines will be held on Saturday...but because snow is predicted, the Page Avenue extension will not open for traffic until Sunday.
