MO Schools Will Share $50k in Over-Collected Phone Fees

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's public schools will share $50,000 because a telephone company couldn't find several thousand people who paid too much on their bills.

A computer programming error resulted in late fees being billed to nearly 84,000 CenturyTel customers nearly two years ago. The company began issuing refunds in October of last year.

But CenturyTel couldn't find nearly 15,000 customers, many who are no longer active with the company. Under an agreement with the state the leftover money, plus interest, goes into a public school fund.
