St. Louis, MO – The nine people named in the indictment stand accused of filing and then destroying copies of phony voter registration cards.
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce says the group registered dead people, registered some people multiple times to stuff voter rolls and lied to the grand jury.
Joyce says the indictment sends a clear message that the citizens of St. Louis deserve fair elections:
"Anything that undermines the public confidence in the election process is a serious matter," Joyce said. "And I think that that message is clear today that that is how they're going to be viewed."
The penalties for each of the 134 counts range from probation and fines to seven years in prison.
