Springfield, Ill. – Governor Rod Blagojevich today accused Illinois lawmakers of a "spending orgy" after the House restored $16 million in budget cuts the governor made.
The House voted to override money struck from the budget by Blagojevich using his line-item veto power. He says if he hadn't
the budget would be in deficit.
But the General Assembly reconvened in its fall session this week and the governor says it is "spending ... money like
a bunch of drunken sailors."
He also criticized Secretary of State Jesse White for getting the House to add $5 million more to his budget than they agreed on in October. He agreed to the spending if it didn't require new money. But White says his staff didn't cooperate in finding any.
