St. Louis, Mo. – The St. Louis teachers union is denouncing Tuesday's job action in which some 210 district employees called in sick.
Local 420 president Mary Armstrong says the union does not condone this or any job action and is encouraging the employees to return to work.
Armstrong says the action is alleged to be a planned event orchestrated by district employees but adds it's up to the district to prove that.
"And until that time, we will defend the rights of our members if any type of disciplinary action is yielded their way, even in the event that they were out legitimately sick," Armstrong said.
District officials say a sufficient number of substitute teachers were called in to teach classes, and that the sickout caused no disruption in education.
